Chris Collins

How did you come to know Christ?

I was born and raised in the church. God was always a part of my life. I had great council and role models growing up in my family. It was in college where I realized the difference between knowing about God, and truly knowing God. It was during my time as a student at Trevecca Nazarene University that God revealed himself to me in a new and fresh way. It was through that time I realized God was calling me to live a life of eternal significance.

Why do you work for FCA?

Uniquely Experienced! When I first received the call and was asked to pray about going into full time sports ministry, I wasn’t sure what God was doing in my heart. What I realized was God has been using college baseball coaching as training for full time kingdom work with coaches and athletes in sports ministry. I work for FCA because God has used my life experience to prepare me to minister to coaches and athletes! This ministry is on the front lines of our schools and culture!

What’s your vision for FCA?

We want to see FCA serve every campus in Tucson, AZ. To have an influence by way of coaches or campus ministry on all 35 high school campuses in Pima County. We want to see sports transformed into a platform to glorify God and bring people into a greater relationship with Jesus Christ! We want to be eternally significant anywhere sports is played.

Coach who impacted you the most and why?

Jeff Forehand was my impact coach and my coaching mentor. He is the current Head Baseball Coach at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. He showed me how a coach cares for the entire athlete. To care about their development off the field more than on the field. You never feared coach Forehand… you feared disappointing him! You knew he cared about you by how he treated you and how he spoke to you. He was focused on raising better sons, husbands and father in that order. He lived out his faith and his family was a part of our program. It showed us the most important side of the men we were becoming. To be committed ultimately the things that matter most.
