2018 Summer Camp Coach Information

Strong: Fight. Finish. Faith.

Camp theme: Athletes are conditioned to be strong both physically and mentally. The measure of greatathletes shows how much faster, stronger and smarter they are than the opponent. But as Christian competitors, we have the game-changing advantage of being spiritually strong.

We serve a strong God, and we are called to be like Him in every area of our lives. God calls us to be solid in our faith, to fight the good fight with perseverance, and surround ourselves with a firm support system in order to finish strong. With Jesus Christ and His Word transforming us daily, we can be strong 24/7!

Camp Info

  • Camp goes from Saturday, June 30th - Tuesday, July 3rd and is held at Northern Arizona University with some sports practicing at Coconino and Flagstaff High Schools.
  • Camp consists of 6 sessions of competition and 3 evening programs. One practice on Saturday afternoon and Tuesday morning, two practices on Sunday and Monday.
  • College athletes will serve as huddle leaders and can assist you with coaching.
  • We need athletes to make camp happen! Please invite your athletes to attend camp; they will need to register and pay. FCA field staff can make camp presentations at your school if you'd like. Camp registration link. 
  • The coach who brings the most athletes to camp will get a $100 gift card!


Arrival in Flagstaff

  • Saturday, June 30th coach, volunteer & family registration at NAU is from 10am-1pm.
  • PARK in lot P31 on University and San Francisco right next to the Observation Intramural Fields or in lots P32 or P33 at Reilly dorms. If lot P31 fills up, feel free to park in P32 or P33. They are fairly close by the other dorms.
  • From lot P31 behind SeChrist dorm, follow the orange "route arrows" on the side walk to Calderon Learning Community for check in, building 29.
  • All coaches & volunteers check in at Ernest Calderon Learning Community, building 29
    • Coaches/volunteers coming with families will be housed in Calderon, building 29. P31 is the closest parking lot to Calderon.
    • Male coaches/volunteers coming without family will be housed in Sechrist dorm, building 42. P31 is the parking lot at Sechrist.
    • Female coaches/volunteers coming without family will be housed in Reilly dorm, building 48. P32 & P33 are the parking lots at Reilly.
    • ALL CHECK IN at Calderon.
  • Lunch is available in University Union building 30A, from 11:30am-1pm. You will get your meal card when you check in.
  • Coach meeting begins promptly at 12:15pm in University Union Kaibab Room, building 30. First practices begin at 2pm today.
  • Athletic trainer and medical staff meeting is from 1-1:30pm in University Union Kaibab Room, building 30. Feel free to attend both meetings to get to know your coaches. First practices begin at 2pm today.

*Directions to Reilly Hall & P32/P33, female dorms and parking lots. 7 E. University, Flagstaff 86011. Building 48 on the NAU map. These parking lots can also be used if P31 is full.

From 1-17 North to Reilly Hall:

  • Take exit 341 to McConnell Dr.
  • Turn right onto E McConnell Dr.
  • Turn left onto S Knoles Dr.
  • Turn right onto E Runke Dr.
  • Turn left toward Campus Heights St.
  • Turn right onto Campus Heights St.
  • Turn right at the 1st cross street onto University Dr. Reilly Hall will be on the right.

*Directions to Sechrist Hall & P31 parking lot, male dorms & parking for Calderon as well.  1200 S. Beaver St., Sechrist Hall, Flagstaff 86011. Building 42 on the NAU map. If lot P31 is full, use lots P32 or P33 near Reilly.

  • Take exit 341 to McConnell Dr.

  • Turn right toward Beaver Street Transit Way.
  • Continue onto Beaver Street Transit Way.

These 2 forms must be filled out!

There are two very important forms that must be filled out prior to acceptance as a coach at any FCA Camp, follow this link to the: 

  1. Camp staff application- let's us know about you/your family attending camp. 
  2. Ministry Leader Application (MLA). If you have completed the MLA previously, you do not need to complete it again. If this is your first time coaching at camp, please complete both forms.

COACHES BIBLE STUDY

  • Please join us each morning as we dive into God’s Word.
  • 6am-7am in the Calderon dorm lobby.
  • Coffee will be provided and all coaches are welcome to attend.

COACHES SOCIAL

  • Please join us after the evening session each night for coaches social time.
  • 10:15pm-10:45pm in the Calderon dorm lobby.
  • All coaches are welcome to attend.

COACHES WIVES’ BIBLE STUDY

  • Please join us as we dive into God’s Word & get to know each other.
  • Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings
  • 9am-11am, in Calderon classroom A110.
  • Child care available during this study time in the Field House's Kaibab Room.  Please sign up to cover a time slot.

Getting around NAU

Yellow bike program:

  • The university’s Yellow Bike Program provides free bike rentals for ages 18 and over, while we are on their campus!
  • Bikes rentals are good for up to seven days, and include a lock, key, and helmet. 
  • The Yellow Bike Program currently does not use a waiting list and works on a first come, first serve basis. 

To rent a yellow bike:

  1. Visit the University Union (building 30), or the Health and Learning Center (building 25).
  2. Fill out a liability waiver.
  3. Present your driver's license. Rentals for 18 years and up. No campers may rent bikes.
  4. Rental hours: Monday - Friday: 7:00am-12:00am; Saturday: 9:30am-9:00pm and Sunday: 9:30am-10:00pm
  5. Charges for lost, stolen, or damaged items: bike - $135, lock - $35, key - $5

For coaches with families

  • Spouses and children 6th grade and under may attend at no charge, providing you fit into one dorm suite (up to four twin beds).
  • Your children ages 12-18, 7th-12th grade, can come as campers. You will need to register your children who will participate as a camper online and pay a $50 deposit only.   Registration is found at this link.
  • Children camp age who do not want to participate as a camper will still need to pay a $50 deposit, but they do not register online. 
  • Your children 11 and under can hang out in Kid Zone. Details below.
  • We hold both a Coaches Bible Study and a Coaches Wives Bible Study during camp week.
  • FCA has a Power Camp for students entering grades 3rd-6th this fall. It is held in Tempe and runs June 11th-15th. Power Camp registration link will be posted here soon.

FCA Kid Zone Childcare

  • Kid Zone is free childcare available to your children ages birth through 11 years old.
  • Kid Zone is located in the University Field House (building 30), Kaibab room.
  • Kid Zone is open six times during the four days of camp. Drop off and pick up schedule will be handed out when you get to camp. It is available here as well.
  • We need your help! If you are a non-coaching spouse, we ask that you please take at least one shift in Kid Zone. To sign up, please follow this online link. We appreciate your helping us get coverage for every shift. Thank you so much! 

What to bring to camp

  • Coaches: any sports equipment your lead coach has asked you to bring.
  • Fan (you will definitely want this), alarm clock, sheets, blanket (or sleeping bag), pillow, pack n’ play for small children, towel, soap, toothpaste, toiletries, shower shoes, reusable water bottle, practice and casual clothes (for evening program), sports equipment (glove, specific shoes, swim cap/goggles, knee pads, etc). If you or your family members (not campers) want to swim at the WAC during open swim hours, please bring a swimsuit and towel.
  • Wall Aquatic Center hours during camp: Saturday & Sunday 12:30pm-5:30pm; Monday & Tuesday 12pm-2pm & 7- 10pm. Cost: $8 for ages 13 & up; $4 for 12 & under.
  • Adults can use the REC Center to work out for a fee of $10 a day, payable at the REC Center.
  • A backpack is helpful for carrying things you need throughout the day.
  • Comfortable walking shoes for all members of your family.
  • We will provide a Bible and notebook for the coach.
  • Sometimes it’s helpful to bring snacks as you may get hungry throughout the day and at night.
  • LINENS FOR YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY—We will NOT be providing these.
  • If you forget anything or need anything, Target is within walking distance.
  • If your child is a camper, they should have received their information in the mail. If you have questions, please email Debbie.
