By God’s grace, and through the efforts of our coaches, huddle leaders and volunteers, our 2011 Arizona FCA summer camp was a huge success.
There was a record-breaking 436 athletes in attendance, and the level of competition out matched all previous years. The quality of our coaches, our group counselors called “huddle leaders” and the volunteers exceeded all of our expectations.
Camp was hosted, once again, at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ. It was the perfect setting for eight incredible sports camps where athletes were challenged physically, mentally and most importantly, spiritually in their sport during two intense practices each day.
Each practice concluded with a “Winner’s Circle” testimony by one of our coaches or huddle leaders. Not only did the testimonies give the athletes a relatable story, but it built a deeper bond between athlete and huddle leader/ coach. Our huddle leaders did an awesome job relating to the athletes in their sport and building relationships that opened doors for great discussions about the devotions and the guest speaker.
Our evening speakers included University of Illinois FCA director Marcellus Casey,Arizona State FCA Director Mike Sanfratello, and FCA Staff member and Cardinals Chaplain Chad Johnson. All three of these speakers were well received by the athletes. Their messages engaged the athletes, challenged their perceptions, and encouraged their hearts. God provided an AMAZING camp this year, and we feel beyond blessed.
